10 best songs of Morrissey and The Smiths according to UachateC

On a day like today in 1959 Morrissey was born in the UK who is undoubtedly one of the most important characters in music for the writing of UachateC and we celebrate it by choosing the 10 best songs both from his famous group and alone.

10. Asleep (The Smiths)

This is (in our opinion) the most depressing song of a group already full of depressing songs, the soundtrack par excellence for a suicide, however one of the best sad works that the United Kingdom has given and that is why it occupies this site.

♫ Don’t feel bad for me

9. Heaven knows I´m miserable now (The Smiths)

Alejandra Rivera’s recommendation one of those timeless themes from The Smiths that helped turn it from an original group into one that would be the main influence of the largest groups in English and perhaps any language of the late twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

♫ In my life
Why do I give valuable time
To people who don’t care if I live or die? ♪

8. There is a light that never goes out (The Smiths)

A whole generation of Indie music lovers heard Zoey Deschanel (Summer) say ♪ To die but your side it’s such a heavenly way to die ♫ and like Joseph Gordon Levitt (Tom) it was the exact moment they fell in love and Don’t get us wrong we loved the album «The Queen is Dead» for many years before 500 days of summer broke into our lives but this was the moment that convinced us that this specific song was special.

♫ Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people and I
Want to see life

7. Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before (The Smiths)

Although we agree with the rest of humanity that «The queen is dead» is one of the most important albums in history, the reality is that our favorite album of our favorite group is «Strangeways, Here We Come» and it is due to that each of the themes that appears is special for us an example is this song that with phrases like ♪ And so I drank one, It became four, And when I fell on the floor, I drank more ♫ perfectly describes those times partying between happy and melancholic of our youth.

6. First of the gang to die (Morrissey)

Morrissey was not the only talent of The Smiths but it was enough for him to create great songs like this one that was released already in the 21st century and that reminded us because he is an iconic character in history.

♫ And he stole from the rich and the poor
And the not-very-rich and the very poor

5. Interlude (Morrisey & Siouxsie)

Who is Siouxsie? At the risk of sounding uneducated we will confess that we do not know, however we know that he sings this song with Morrissey which is enough to keep it in our minds forever, a theatrical song and little known but one of the great favorites of the writing and not only of Morrissey but of the music in general.

♫ And now, for a time, you are mine… ♪

4. Girlfriend in a coma (The Smiths)

Morrissey is an extraordinary poet, he does not sing about love, nor about sex, nor about attraction, nor about affection, however he expresses ♪ Let me whisper my last goodbyes I know, it’s serious ♫ and makes you feel all that others need to express about explicitly. Although the album in which this song appears is our favorite, it does not contain our most beloved songs, so it is represented in fourth place with this song as it could be any other (Listen: last night I dreamt …, Death of a disco dancer, etc)

♫ There were times when I could
Have strangled her
But you know, I would hate
Anything to happen to her
Would you please

3. Suedehead (Morrissey)

This song is from his solo work the one that reminds us the most of The Smiths and is that this song could well be signed by Morrissey and Marr and nobody would say anything. It is undoubtedly our favorite song from his solo era and evokes those years of melancholy and depression where he and his group were our daily bread.

♫ Why do you telephone?
And why send me silly notes?

2. How soon is now (The Smiths)

We accept it !!!!!!!!! We got to know this song thanks to what in our opinion is an excellent interpretation of T.a.T.u. many years before falling into that dead end spiral called The Smiths, however we also know that the original theme is unattainable and although Lena Katina and Yulia Volkovahicieron made a notable attempt, they did not achieve the melancholy that only Morrissey and Marr were capable of achieving.

♫ So you go and you stand on your own
And you leave on your own
And you go home and you cry
And you want to die ♪

1. I know it’s over (The Smiths)

We have never understood why this is not the most loved and celebrated song of The Smiths (That honor goes to «There is a light that never goes out»), in our case it was listening to it and it immediately positioned itself (never to leave) in the podium of our favorite songs of any group and musical genre created and to be created.

Favorite of the writing, favorite also of Alejandra Rivera, and inevitable companion in the sad moments of our lives, it is placed on its own merit as our favorite song of our favorite group.
